30 Years Later

Have you been to one of your high school reunions? This past weekend over 100 graduates of Page High School in Greensboro, NC gathered together for a fun-filled weekend. How can people, some of which haven’t seen each other since graduation, come together and laugh, smile, encourage, question, hug, DANCE, and enjoy the time so effortlessly? One word: connections. I’ve told people the cool thing about our class is that “It didn’t matter where you lived, how smart you were, how talented or not talented, how much you partied or studied, if you preferred the smoking section….we all were connected in some way.”

We kept hoping there would be a siting of Danny Manning, now that he’s back coaching for Wake Forest – OK, Danny – 2019 – BE THERE! The class of ’84 weekend celebration kicked off with a pre-party at one of my best friend’s homes Thursday evening, then Friday morning the Page vs. Grimsley Rivalry Golf Reunion at Bryan Park began. Over 250 golfers registered to play and sponsor the event which raises money for the Athletic Departments at each school.

Friday night was the Page vs. Grimsley football game and my son, a student at Grimsley told me the next morning, “Mom, you betrayed me last night sitting on the Page side.” I told him, “I cheer for Grimsley 364 days out of the year, not last night though!” The post-game event was hosted by Elks Lodge where Grimsley and Page graduates visited, danced and listened to some good ‘ole rock n’ roll! Saturday’s events included a school tour, lunch w/ classmates and an evening at Café Pasta dancin’ to the oldies of the ‘80’s! Spouses of our classmates and people that went to middle school with our classmates (who graduated from another high school) even showed up at this gig because it’s so much fun! The large TV screens with all the football games didn’t hurt either. Our class president made some announcements to thank the committee that put all the festivities together and I gave a shout out to those classmates we’ve lost over the years.

Each day is a gift, what we choose to do with it can be an opportunity to help someone, love someone or give someone grace or your valuable time. So what’s holding you back from connecting with people in your present, past or future? Give yourself permission to let go, have fun, give back, create change or forgive someone to connect in a new way. If you can’t go to your reunion for yourself, go for the other people – chances are they want to see you!
